"Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world."
¯ Wayne W. Dyer
It's been said that when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change. This quote has changed my life for the better on many an occasion.
When we are powerless to change something (and make sure that you are indeed powerless and that you're not imagining that you have no power) then changing our perspective is the answer to restoring our lives to sanity. It's so easy to fall into the victim role; it's easy to feel sorry for ourselves because we know a situation is not going to change.
If that is the case, then we must, for the sake of our well-being and sur-thrival, learn to change the way we are looking at the situation. When we learn to surrender and get in the flow of life, we will have far less anxiety, more acceptance, and be calm enough to think through our issues and make needed changes when the time is appropriate. Things become less important and annoying when we learn to look at something from a different perspective and that's why super smart people say, "perspective is everything."
When we refuse to budge on something that is happening that we can't change, we will feel anxiety, we will feel frightened, we will feel angry and resentful and, we will make ourselves sick. Taking a step away from something over which we are powerless (providing it is not a death in the family), and changing your perspective will allow calm to wash over you like cool, refreshing water on a sweltering hot day.
The goal is a life that works for us, with us, and brings us the satisfaction of knowing we always do our absolute best and let go of the rest.
