REETINGS FROM
THE 30-DAY HEARTBREAK CURE TOUR

March 09

Hello gorgeous, I am writing this from the Heartland of America. Yesterday I was in Memphis, and now I am in Arkansas. Next stop is Houston, and then I am taking a break.

Being in so many cities, meeting so many people of every age and ethnicity, has been an incredible and fulfilling experience.

It is rare to have the opportunity to go this deep into the heart of America to witness and feel (literally) what people are feeling. I have made so many special connections with some of you, and I wanted to write about a few of the things that have touched me.

Of course, the economy has affected everyone. I am an optimist; I will always look for the good. And from where I sit, the one good thing I can say is that it seems to have put us all on a similar page of understanding. I personally don't know anyone that it hasn't affected. Though it's not fun, what it has done is make us more sensitive. People are losing their businesses and some even their homes. People are feeling scared, and edgy.

Spiritually speaking, we need now more than ever to be there for each other. We need to practice the art of grace in a way we probably haven't been called to do. We need to show patience, and most of all, we need to give where we can and where it won't hurt us to do so. Your time is a valuable asset, and if you find yourself not doing anything anyway, there are so many things to do with it that will benefit everyone.

Today I visited a nursing facility to give a talk, a few laughs, some hugs, and offer prayer to anyone who might need it. I realized that I was in the presence of people who were in the true twilight of their lives and probably had much wisdom to impart, if only someone would ask. I always ask. I am here to learn. I met so many cool people, including two women who were in their late eighties and early nineties, and I'm not kidding when I say that they had more going on upstairs than most of the younger people I meet!

But who would know it if no one pays attention?

There was an adorable woman named Melba, who was wearing my lip-gloss! She was in her late seventies, and let me tell you, that lip gloss (the "hot" wheel if you wanted to know) looked as great on her as it does on an 18 year old! I'm telling you, it took years off of her face! It tickled me no end to know that somehow, she found and bought my makeup! She might not be exactly where she wanted to be, but darn if she wasn't going to look good being there! Oh God, I love people!

Of all the things I offer, prayer is always the thing that makes people light up, at any age. Hope is what people need, and that includes yours truly, so I am more than happy to close my eyes with any of you and send one up. I have become a good little prayer warrior out here on the front lines, and I am proud of it. Nothing better than a laugh and a prayer, I always say. It changes lives. And that's my business! You can change lives too. Give love. It's free.

Do I sometimes wish that I was Bill Gates so I could take the pressure off of folks? Sure. But I'm not. I'm Catherine Hickland, and I am doing what I can.

Give love. It's free.

And don't forget to slap on a little lip gloss, you'll be fine.

Ask Melba.
